Yoga Vashistha videos by Swami Premanand

India is an amazing country, its a land whose sustainable life practices which are ingrained in its culture, ensured that its civilization has continued despite facing numerous threats in past and present. Indians have had ideals like Buddha, Rama who have renounced even kingship for seeking deeper meanings of life. When the hankering in mind stops and it turns inwards, one realises the true value of our motherland. Seeking deeper meaning of life people visit saints and seek eternal meaning in this relative world.

I too had the good fortune of learning  from a selfless master in Himalayas and attempted to learn the secrets of Yoga vashistha. There is no knowledge greater than Yoga Vashistha because it swallows the very mind which evaluates and judges knowledge as higher or lower. Some knowledge of Upanishads , Bhagavad Gita might be prerequisite to be able to understand and appreciate Yoga Vashistha. While I was in Himalayas I recorded the video lectures of regular Yoga Vashistha classes of  Swami Premanand Saraswati for the benefit of spiritual seekers who are born or even yet to be born

I understand that for a seeker Yoga vashistha can be baffling therefore have created a small summary which seeks to introduce the subject.

Yoga vashistha says that individuality does not exists and presence of an independent identity apart from paramatmaa is an illusion. Lets discuss finer details of it.

You mean I dont exist ?
You exist, but your existence is not separate from the things you see. You see variety in nature but it exists only at surface level. All objects have one soul and are not different from Paramatman. So you exist as paramatman will be more appropriate thing to say.

So why do i feel pain, when i get hurt. Paramatman should feel pain.

.. continued in blog here

It will continue to work on it and come with second part of the blog some day.

A new learning : Initiatives

I conduct Regular Long Kriya at Eschborn on Sundays and its attended by people in Eschborn region. Many are registered for the messages, almost everyone value Kriya but ultimately actually few join the weekly Kriya.
I took an initiative this time and decided to do something different than the normal message broadcast. I wrote a beautiful message which is different from usual and invoked quotes of Gita to remind people about importance of Kriya
nehabhikrama-naso 'sti
pratyavayo na vidyate
sv-alpam apy asya dharmasya
trayate mahato bhayat - Bhagavad Gita

In this endeavour there is no loss or diminution, and a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.

Small investments of Yoga and meditation leads a lot of benefit cumulatively. 🙏
See you all 🙏

I then messaged few people and invited them personally for the Kriya. Today there were so many people that some had to even sit in other hall for Yoga practice. The environment had a vibrancy and the meditation deeper.
I felt happy that a small initiative from my side made so much difference to people and many did the Kriya today.
So the learning is
*Its not just enough to educate  people so that they understand the importance, sometimes a little nudge (follow up) is required so that they can cross over the initial sloth*

HSS Camp : Raksha Bandhan unique contrast experienced

Few weeks back, i attended a yoga program organised in Bhakti Marga centre in Germany. The content of the program was designed by us with a view to inspire indians abroad and specially our younger generation which is growing up in Germany.

I conducted yoga sessions daily and also got an opportunity to take a seminar on vedic mathematics. The event had other amazing sessions like games, plays and essay writing etc.

Additionally, we also had a Raksha Bandhan event where young kids were to tie Rakhi to people at Bhakti Marga. it was such a sweet gesture intended to bring two communities together and  promote  one of the visions of Indian seers i.e “Vasudhaiva Kutumbkam” i.e one world family. I was briefing the audience about the significance of Raksha bandhan and spoke with measured words, considering the audience is western and Raksha bandhan might be difficult concept for them. I finished the introduction with a feeling  that something more should have been said and my introduction was academic without "Bhakti".

After the event Swami Aniruddha who was a westerner born Hindu monk addressed the podium and thanked us for organising the program. I was amazed when he  recalled the story of Lord Krishna protecting draupadi as she had tied a Rakhi in the hands of Krishna. I was amazed at the aptness of the story and marvelled at the wisdom and his familiarity to traditions of India and inner spiritual depth. There are many abroad whose seeking of eternal truth has found fulfilment in India and they admire the traditions of India.

As  a contrast i often read about some authors who try to portray Raksha Bandhan as an expression of patriarchal mindset and what not. Unfortunately these people do not know what India is and suffer from a inferiority complex.

I recall a couplet from a hindi song  (Hum us desh ke vaasi hain Jis desh main Ganga Behti hai )

कुछ लोग जो ज़्यादा जानते है
इंसान को कम पहचानते है
होठों पे सच्चाई रहती है
जहाँ दिल में सफाई रहती है
हम उस देश के वासी है
जिस देश में गंगा बहती है.

Poem for Umbrella

Just as white is the substratum of all colours, similarity Brahman is substratum of all life forms.

My contribution to Indo German ties

It was wonderful to accompany Hon Consul General of Indian consulate to meet the Hon mayor of Eschborn.

The meeting was to enhance the business and cultural relationship of Germany with India .

Got an opportunity to present Art of living with the Hon. Mayor and director of business. I was pleased to note that interest in Yoga and Ayurveda has crossed oceans and reached world over.
...
I recall the poem of Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji , the sweetness of India has spread around the world and conquered hearts.

भूभाग नहीं शत शत मानव के हृदय जितने का निश्चय ।

It's the endeavour of Indian community that they should spread happiness and sustainable life practices wherever they go. Let everyone be happy is the teaching of the land of India. India, the oldest civilization can teach sustainable life practices which the world desperately needs today. India too has to learn efficiency and management from Germany.

Has India's destiny taken a turn ?

                                             Has India's destiny taken a turn ?

"If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India." - Max Mueller

India i.e., Bharat, is an ancient country, a sacred land and our motherland. It is the country where people made Enquiry of truth the foremost goal of their life. Not only culturally, Bharat was economically prosperous, rich ín architecture, and science. According to the Balance of Economic Power, India had the largest and most advanced economy for most of the interval between the 1st century and 18th century, the most of any region for a large part of the last two millennia. British referred to it as the Jewel of their crown, others as "Golden sparrow". In the realm of education, Bharat attracted students from nearby countries in world renowned Universities like Nalanda, Takshshila, Vikramshila and Valabhi.

However, time took a turn and the country which was at pinnacle of civilization, was reduced to the role of a bound nation. The country which taught others how to free their mind, its own land was bound in shackles of foreign rule. Its ancient universities, architecture and economy were grazed to dust by foreign invaders. It was expected that once India removes shackles of foreign rule, it would recover as Germany could do, after being reduced to stone age in 2nd World War.

India's progress and recovery since Independence in 1947, has been good but below expectations. We towed for long with the idea of socialism but ultimately discarded it in 1990s and opened our markets and economy to the world. Our polity too had been confused and no party was given absolute mandate to rule the country since the gates of economy were first opened for the world. However since past few years things are appearing to change and India for the first time, gave an absolute majority to any government for agenda of development. Swami Vivekananda had prophesied that India shall take its place in the world and will be vishwaguru again. Has the time for India's steep ascent arrived ? Surely signs are positive and point in this direction:

Economy

As far as economy is concerned, India has recently replaced France as sixth largest economy and is predicted to replace Britain to become fifth largest economy by next year. It is simplifying tax structure by implementing GST and removing red tapism which had become synonymous with India since long. These and many such reforms have caught the attention of the world and India's ranking in the World Bank's – Ease of Doing Business Index 2018, has made a giant leap of 30 positions – from 130th in 2016 to the 100th spot in 2017.

India's resolve to reduce fiscal deficit of its economy also points in the direction of long term stability of its economy. All this has not remained unnoticed from the sights of International investors and Make in India initiative to boost manufacturing in India has become a great hit. And very recently Samsung opened the World's largest mobile manufacturing factory in India. Indian economy had become service sector based industry and renewed focus on manufacturing sector is indeed very refreshing and a strong positive sign towards improving health of its economy.

India's rising Soft power

Along with its economy, India's soft power is also on the rise. Few years ago at the request of India and supported by 177 member nations, United Nations declared June 21st as the "International Day of Yoga". Today Yoga and meditation, India's gifts to the world are respected world over as tools not only to stay fit and happy but as tools to seek deeper meaning of life. Government push and celebration of International Yoga days through consulates around the world is also working wonders.

"It is very difficult for any philosophy, religion or culture to survive without state patronage. Yoga has existed so far almost like an orphan. Now, official recognition by the UN would further spread the benefit of yoga to the entire world" - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Indian diaspora, which is spread throughout the world is also playing an important role in preserving and enhancing the soft power of India. Knowledge of India's culture, tolerance, Information Technology and varied cuisines is spreading, thanks to its growing diaspora across the world.

Leadership at International Platforms

Along with rising soft power, it can also be noticed that India is increasingly displaying exemplary leadership at International platforms and events. India's role was much appreciated when it conducted a rescue operation in Yemen, not just for Indian citizens but also for stranded citizens of other countries. Also, in the Paris deal to prevent global warming, India again displayed responsibility which is suited to the role of an emerging world power. In order to promote solar energy usage throughout the world, India founded the high profile, International solar alliance which includes 121 countries and is based in Gurugram, India.

Infrastructure Development

Recently India celebrated electrification of every village of the country, a step long overdue since Independence. It is constructing roads, highways, laying railway lines at remotest corners of country and even connecting coasts by Sagarmala project. Keeping in mind the important role of tourism in earning forex, India is also investing on developing its tourism sector and promoting tourism under various schemes like Hriday and Swadesh darshan etc. India is also working towards creating 100 smart cities which can become models for other cities of India.

"I would give all the wealth of the world, and all the deeds of all the heroes, for one true vision" - Henry David Thoreau

Right Vision

India's vision to use renewable energy, promote and preserve Indian culture, promotion of Ayurveda, tree plantation, Clean India mission , creation of skill development ministry especially to focus on skill development, promotion of e-governance , startup India mission for promotion of entrepreneurship etc. hint that India is taking right steps towards a great vision.

As Swami Vivekananda said around a century ago, "Hidden under the ashes, the fire of our national life is smouldering", the bird eye view of India's progress presented above point that India is proceeding in the right direction. It is without doubt that there are multiple challenges too that India is facing in the form of internal and external threats, corruption, nepotism, fights over reservation, separatist tendencies and unsustainable rise in population etc. to name a few. However "national will" can undoubtedly convert such challenges into milestones.

"On our work depends the coming of the India of the future. She is there ready waiting. She is only sleeping" - Swami Vivekananda

In the end I quote the words from Vedas, which wish peace and happiness for everyone in the world. A civilization which desires prosperity of everyone, its rise will mean the rise of everything that is holy in the world and will open gates for sustainable peace and happiness for the world.

Om, Sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ

Sarve santu nirāmayāḥ

Sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu

Mā kashchit duḥkha bhāgbhavet

Oṁ Shāntiḥ, Shāntiḥ, Shāntiḥ

May all be prosperous and happy
May all be free from illness
May all see what is spiritually uplifting
May no one suffer
 Om peace, peace, peace
